HIGH GEAR

He’s from a shoe dynasty and he’s an architect, together Galahad Clark (seventh generation heir to Clark shoes) and Rem D Koolhaas (graduate from the Technical University of Delft, Holland in architecture) are the duo behind United Nude.

Since 2003, the brand has spanned over 40 counties, with countless styles of footwear that intersect between architectural design and fashion. Spring/Summer 2012 saw United Nude launch their fifth collaboration with fashion designer Iris van Herpen (a label coveted by the likes of Björk and Lady Gaga). Debuted on the runway at this year’s Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in Paris, models walked down in “Fang” – a fiberglass and carbon fiber made shoe consisted of 10 teeth-like sole bottoms. But why settle for just shoes when you can soon drive in United Nude’s Low Res doorless and mirrorless vehicle?

Low Res is United Nude’s ongoing project that uses computer technology to design objects ranging from shoes, wine glasses, chairs, motorbikes and yes, cars. The 3D rendered vehicle models after the Lamborghini Countach. Having just debuted at the Gwangju Design Biennale in Korea, the prototype sculpture is now on permanent display at United Nude’s New York flagship store. The final product will be a 50 km/h moving triangular surfaced vehicle, or something that resembles the Bat-mobile.
